Do I require a license to ride a Gette electric bike?
No. Gette electric bikes have a 200 Watt electric motor. Under Australian road laws, power assisted bikes do not need to be registered if the maximum power output does not exceed 200 Watts.
Can I change gears while using the power assist?
Yes. However, you must be pedalling to shift gears, just like a normal bike. The gears will not change if you are using only the throttle to cruise along. Shifting gears works best when pedalling smoothly and steadily.
How do I recharge the battery?
Each electric bike comes with its own Australian approved 240V battery charger. This can be plugged into any standard home or office power point.
How long does it take to recharge the battery?
The battery takes 4-6 hours to fully recharge. However, the battery may take up to 8 hours to recharge if the temperature is below 10C. This is because at low temperatures the charge efficiency is lower. But let’s face it, sub 10 degrees isn’t that common in Australia!
When should I recharge the battery?
The battery should be recharged at the completion of each ride, or when the power level indicator shows half charge or less. It is also advised to recharge the battery after long periods of storage.
Does the battery recharge during riding?
No. The battery does not recharge while riding.
How far will the electric bicycle travel between recharges?
Travel distances vary greatly due to many factors including terrain, the weight of rider, rider fitness and the level of assistance required. On average, you can expect to travel 35-50 kilometres per charge.
When will I need to replace the battery?
The Li-ion battery is rated for approximately 800 recharge cycles. This means you will need to change the battery after 4-5 years of average use.
Can the electric bicycle be ridden as a normal bike?
Yes. All Gette electric bikes have the luxury of being ridden with full electric assistance or pedal power only. Often on flat surfaces and downhills you will find electric assistance is not required, so you can choose to use the power only when you need it!
How does the Pedelec system and throttle work?
Once the electric motor is switched on with the controller, the Pedelec system will engage automatically when you pedal, supplying power through the cranks to help you pedal much more easily. The Pedelec system disengages automatically when you stop pedalling, or apply the brakes.
The throttle is used to cruise along flat ground without pedalling. You can control your speed by twisting the throttle.
When you do not require pedalling assistance, switch the power off at the controller. This allows the electric bike to be pedaled as you would a normal bike.
How fast does a Gette electric bike go?
For safety and efficiency, Gette electric bikes have a speed limiter installed, which disengages the power when you exceed 32 km/h. You may still ride much faster by pedalling normally along flat ground or travelling downhill, however it is only practical to have power assistance when you need it!
What kind of warranty comes with a Gette electric bike?
All electric bikes come with a 3 year frame warranty and a 1 year parts warranty from date of purchase.
Does Gette provide a complete range of parts?
